The Global Youth Murals Project is a much-loved component of our School and Classroom Program.  Developed in 2002, the project invites students to express their views on culture, friendship and peace through art.  The murals are then shared online and in person, through exhibits, so that as many people as possible can experience their beautiful international perspectives.

Each year, we eagerly await the arrival of murals from all points on the globe.  We were thrilled to recently hear from friends in Russia and Indonesia that their murals are on the way:

A collection of murals from past years have gone on tour across the United States, hosted by PTPI chapter members who organized exhibits in order to share them with their communities.  First they visited our El Dorado County, California Chapter, then our Sheboygan, Wisconsin Chapter.

Next they spent a few months with our Delaware Chapter before heading to Arizona for our Worldwide Conference, allowing members from all around the world to enjoy them.

After the conference they will head to the Atlanta, Georgia Chapter, which has arranged for the murals to be displayed in the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, exposing them to a large and diverse audience.

Today we announce our fourth selection for PTPI’s Global Book Club, Trail of Tears: The Rise and Fall of the Cherokee Nation by John Ehle.

Trail of Tears documents a moment in U.S. history that changed the fate of a nation.  As we prepare for PTPI’s 19th Worldwide Conference in Arizona, USA, we invite our PTPI family to learn more about the relocation of Indian Americans from their homelands to the Western United States.  This moving portrayal of the Cherokee Nation is filled with legend, religion and politics.

Register today to learn about Global Book Club books early and receive resources to enhance your reading experience.

Discussion questions prepared by PTPI staff will be posted next week.

For each book chosen by our President and CEO, Mary Jean Eisenhower, we will have 3-4 staff members reading along and sharing thoughts here on the PTPI Blog.  Stay tuned for their bios!

There are many ways to become involved.  Serve as the founder of a PTPI book club within your community or chapter; read along individually and post thoughts on the PTPI Blog; or take our suggested books to your existing book club.  Register today to learn about the books early and receive resources to add to your reading experience.
