Just 11 days until our student delegates depart for Peru to take part in the EXPERIENCE: Peru program! They’ll be posting updates from the journey here on the PTPI Blog – we can’t wait to hear about their adventures as they make their way through this incredible itinerary:
Day 1: Depart Atlanta, Georgia USA for Lima, Peru
Day 2: Short flight to Puerto Maldonado, transfer to the jungle lodge (Posada Amazonas), visit to the Canopy Tower for a view of the forest and the Tambopata River and a meeting with members of the Infierno Community to learn about their indigenous culture, community and lifestyle.
Day 3: Community service project (repairing a local elementary school and building a playground), lunch at the village fish farm and a night walk through the jungle.
Day 4: Flight to Cusco and the Sacred Valley, meeting with community members to get to know them and learn their traditional dances, briefing on the upcoming Lares Trek, and a talent show to showcase newly learned dance moves.
Day 5: Visit to Potato Park to learn how potatoes help to sustain the lifestyle of the local communities, trip to Seminario Ceramics for a lesson on the history of Peruvian pottery and a chance to create a unique souvenir, and ProWorld presentation about rural health care and how it affects the Peruvian people.
Day 6: A total of 6.5 miles on the trek, stopping first in Tambohuaylla, to meet the people and distribute school supplies to the children, and finishing in the highland village of Huascawasi.
Day 7: Nine miles of hiking, with a stop at a living Inca settlement, a trip through the Ipasayqocha pass, and camping near Lake Ipasayqocha.
Day 8: Last day of the trek (five miles), through the town of Willoc to catch the train to Machu Picchu.
Day 9: Early morning tour of Machu Picchu (to catch the best light), train to Cusco, dinner and Peruvian show at Don Antonio Restaurant.
Day 10: Tour of Cusco to see the city highlights, buffet lunch, flight to Lima and traditional Peruvian fast food for dinner.
Day 11: Depart Lima and return to Atlanta.
