The Latest: PTPI’s Work with The HALO Trust

We hear from The HALO Trust regularly with reports on the accomplishments of the PTPI-sponsored demining team in Cambodia.  Here’s the latest:

  • PTPI is the first US non-governmental organization to support the use of HSTAMIDS (“smart detector”) in humanitarian landmine clearance.
  • HSTAMIDS have increased productivity by 500% in some areas.
  • The cost to remove one landmine in Cambodia is approximately $100.
  • The cost for operations of a HSTAMIDS per month is approximately $230.
  • In the first six months of 2009, the PTPI-sponsored HSTAMIDS demining team cleared 3.16 acres of land, destorying a total of 189 landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO).  The removal of these mines positively impacted 1,344 families living in the area.
